ICYMI last week a competition was held to win tickets to a special fan event at Paramount Pictures to preview the new trailer of Star Trek Beyond. It will also have a Q&A with director Justin Lin, cast, crew and ‘other surprises’
To be in for a chance of winning you had to submit a 50 second video explaining how you went ‘beyond’ as a Star Trek fan and why you should go to the fan event at Los Angeles.
Paramount gave away 50 tickets a day to the event and one grand prize a day to include flights, accommodation and entry so us poor and distance-disadvantaged stood a chance.
We HAD to go so we each made a video in the hope that one of us would succeed. And thank the prophets our Trekkie In Training Sarah won!!! So the Trekkie Girls are heading out to Los Angeles next Thursday 19th to attend this ‘special fan event’.
We are incredibly excited and grateful. We cannot wait to visit the home of Star Trek, where 50 years of history has taken place! It’s the perfect venue to see what lays Beyond….
We feel a bit like Tom Paris in Voyager’s Future’s End at the moment. I (Sam) have had the privilege of visiting Los Angeles twice and not for very long. So I have that Tom Paris thing going on where I have very limited knowledge, but it will have to do!
You’ll hear us walking around Paramount pictures saying things like ‘groovy’ ‘What’s that thing in your pocket?’ and ‘A leads to B leads to C’!
Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Periscope where we will endeavour to bring you as much information as possible from this exciting event!
Here’s our video’s we submitted including Sarah’s grand prize winning clip!
The Trekkie Girls discuss Star Trek news from the week including Destinations Star Trek’s announcement that Wil Wheaton will be attending their convention, the (now verified) fake Star Trek New Series poster and news that Star Trek Beyond had been reshooting scenes.
Zoe Saldana uploaded this beautiful shot of her new and improved Starfleet wear. The dress features long sleeves, a cuff and rank trimmings! Costume buffs all over the alpha quadrant swooned over this one. Look at that tailoring!
We love the collar, almost a bit TNG-esque?
Whilst it looks more in keeping with the original series dress, it retains the sharp lines and cut from the JJ-Verse in a perfect blend. Our fabulous new dress-maker may have some work coming up! *hint hint*.
The fact that she is back in the uniform is because some scenes are being reshot (according to the source deadline.com) to include the actress Shohreh Aghdashloo. Rumour has it she is playing “the high command of the Federation” which has us a bit stumped. Perhaps it’s the Federation President? Perhaps in this universe, there’s been a greater merge with Vulcan and Earth has taken on some of its political institutions?
Who knows! Either way, we are pleased to see an Iranian Woman cast for such a high powered position, demonstrating positivism and diversity for the future. (Whether she is a goodie or a baddie!)
We wish you a Trektastic 2016 and what a year we have ahead of us. It’s astonishing to think this TV and movie series has gripped our planets attention for half a century. It makes us feel so young!
We were going to write up a review about 2015 but like our spandex loving crewmates, we can’t help but look forward into the future.
Instead, here is what we have planned and our looking forward to in 2016.
SF Ball. 5th – 7th February. Grand Harbour Hotel, Southampton
Trek guests include Jonathan Frakes, Vaughn Armstrong and Casey ‘For Cardassia’ Biggs. If you haven’t already it worked it out…. That means the Enterprise Blues Band will also be performing! (Wonder if Frakes can actually play the Trombone?)
Star Trek Beyond – 22nd July
Like we did before with Star Trek Into Darkness we’ll be following all developments leading up to the release of the movie… and Beyond! *groans*. But we don’t like to see or spread leaks, so just official stuff and own opinions from us!
London Film and Comic Con 29th – 31st July. Olympia, London
The biggest show in town….and the Country! These have been getting seriously star studded lately and we want to see how Showmasters are going to top last years, if at all possible. No Trek guests have been announced but so close to the release of Beyond means it will be great to meet up with our fellow Trekkies and discuss every element of the film.
The Official Star Trek Convention 3rd – 7th August. Rio All Suites Hotel, Las Vegas
This one makes us squeal like a Tribble!! Hotels are booked and first contact has been made with organisers. We haven’t been to the famous Vegas con since it was at the Hilton. Reporting live from STLV50 is set to be one of our biggest highlights.
New Series – January 2017
Throughout the year StarTrek.com are going to drip feed us information and we’re going to beg for more!! Remember, we’re not a news site but we love snooping around, asking questions and speculating.
- We are upping our game this year with a plan to bring monthly live episodes via Periscope as well as our normal Trekkie Girls episodes on YouTube.
- We’ll also be watching Destination Star Trek like a hawk. If they make any sound regarding the possibility of another event in the UK or Europe, we’ll be all over it like Kirk and a green girl! Remember our clues we posted last year hinting they might be back??
Having stumbled across this snippet on Treknews of an interview with Simon Pegg with the New York Daily News, we are pleased to learn that Simon Pegg has been referring to Memory Alpha whilst writing for Star Trek: Beyond.
We’re hoping this means lots of hidden Easter eggs, crossovers and blantent references in our belovered Star Trek universe.
We know that Pegg is a self confessed fan, so why do we love that he is browsing our favourite Trek site? For Borg level perfection, obviously! We like our references to be tidy and laser scalpel sharp.
It’s also a good indication that he respects the franchise and us nit-picky fans, that he wants to deliver it well. Either that or he went to google a spelling (maybe Qo’noS!? – ouch!) and then got stuck in the most horrendous wiki-loop ever.
Btw, does anyone else play this game on Memory Alpha? Pick two random and seemingly unconnected aspects of Star Trek and try to link to them in as few moves as possible. So Star Trek on the page Qo’noS and get to Tricorder clicking only hyperlinks within each entries. How many pages does it take you?
